Jayne Mansfield's Tropicana Hotel Nightclub Revue 54 Years On

Today in 1959 Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay started their engagement at the Tropicana Hotel Nightclub Revue. Their appearance went through until the 18th of June. This was their second appearance performing at the Tropicana, the first one being Tropicana Holiday in February 1958. The couple brought along Jayne Marie and their little four month old baby Miklos. There are hundreds of photographs of Jayne taken around the grounds of the Tropicana during her stay there.

The show was produced by Lou Walters with music by the Herman Kaye Orchestra and Choreography by Kenny Davis.

Jayne's costumes were much more risque this time around. Jayne even designed the main sheer nylon costume herself.

Here is a synopsis for the show;

In this nightclub act, Jayne Mansfield sings "Let's Fall in Love" and "My One and Only Love". While Mickey Hargitay is singing, he walks among the audience. After Mickey finishes mingling, the two of them do a skit where Mickey, an insurance agent, discusses insuring Jayne's "two puppies". Mickey and Jayne then do an acrobatic dance. In addition to Jayne and Mickey, the show contains acts by comics Elsa & Waldo, tumblers Siz Flying DePauls, Apache dancers Lucien & Ashour, and acrobats Nicki & Piroska.

Variety had this to say of the show;

Jayne Mansfield has built herself into a legendary figure called Jayne Mansfield - and that's her greatest asset; she's Jayne Mansfield. She doesn't claim to be an actress or singer, but she does act and she does sing in a refreshingly different style which fits the legendary figure, the distinctive and exciting screen sex symbol, the beautiful face with the body to match.

The 'two puppies' skit was used again in 1966 for her act French Dressing at the Latin Quarter.

Below are some beautiful images of Jayne Mansfield during her time at the Tropicana for the Tropicana Hotel Nightclub Revue, enjoy.
