Jayne Mansfield Christmas Cards Information for Collectors

Many of my readers not only adore and admire Jayne by they also collect Jayne Mansfield items just like I do too. One of the nicest things to collect are Jayne's personal Christmas cards. Jayne sent out hundreds of Christmas cards to anyone she corresponded with such as actors and actresses, press men, secretaries, hotel and restaurant owners, the list goes on. These Christmas cards are quite rare but they are out there and there is plenty out there for the devoted fans like us. I myself own three. Two of which came from a restaurant owner in a fantastic autograph and document collection I brought a couple of years ago for a fabulous bargain.

Jayne's Christmas cards can get quite pricey sometimes but there is something that all Jayne fans should know if thinking of forking out a lot of money for one. They are not hand written by Jayne. All of Jayne's Christmas cards are either printed or secretarial signed (one in particular is in Mickey's handwriting). In some cases the original envelope the card came in can be in Jayne's own hand writing but the Christmas cards are not. She sent out way too many to hand write them all. Another thing that is quite displeasing and makes confusing for collectors is that sellers more often than not will sell you the card under the interpretation that the card is in Jayne's own writing. I have seen quite a few lately on eBay with the seller claiming it to be Jayne's writing. It is misleading.

Here are some of Jayne's Christmas Cards

One of Jayne's earlier Christmas Cards
Fold out card
Interior is bold ink
Season's Greetings from
The Hargitays 1962
In Mickey's Handwriting
The back is blank
(I have this one but this is not my copy)

1963 Fold out Christmas Card
Jayne was pregnant with Mariska
Interior is in bold ink
Single sided card 1962
Back is blank
Secretarial Signature
(Another one I have but again not an image of my copy,
this is an image of one that sold on eBay recently for what I thought
to be an outrageous price)

Cimber Family Christmas Card
Jayne had these cards made up with a
handwritten message pre-printed inside
All these cards are exactly the same the tilt of the writing,
the spaces between the letters and words do not change
at all between different cards. These are not handwritten at all.
Different card from above
to show that these are exactly the same inside
Cimber Family Christmas Card
The inside of the above card
Again, this is pre-printed in Jayne's handwriting
(Another one I own, not my copy though)
Jayne Mansfield Christmas Card

The inside of the card above
Pre-printed message in Jayne's hand
The inside of a different copy of the same card
Slant is the same, spaces between letters and words
are exactly the same to prove these are
pre-printed not hand written
To me these are great collectors pieces even if they are not signed by Jayne, they were still her personal Christmas cards and are fantastic to collect. I think that sometimes when the seller is misleading and claims these to be signed by Jayne that is when they can get pretty pricey because the people bidding on them believe they are bidding on a true signed item when they are not. So this is just a post to make all my fellow collectors aware of what you are actually getting when you buy these lovely cards.
