Movies and More rare photograph of Jayne Mansfield and remembrance of her visit to University of North Carolina.
Our MoviesAndMore.tv director, Mike Doares, then a University of North Carolina undergrad, has a vivid recollection of Ms. Mansfield's visit to the University's Chapel Hill NC campus on Sunday
October 18 1964. Ms. Mansfield, who had been appearing in a Greensboro NC night club, visited 800 students to help inaugurate the social program of Morrison Residence Hall, a new UNC men's dormitory.
Mike remembers her charming acceptance of a plaque declaring Ms. Mansfield an Honorary Lifetime House Mother, by assuring the crowd of students that "...and I can cook, too". The event was immortalized by the never-before-published photo shown here. Taken by the late Bill Norment, a friend of Mike's, the photo only came to light recently and shows Ms. Mansfield standing next to the famed UNC Victory Bell.
