Jayne Mansfield in Tralee

Jayne Mansfield made alot of appearances around the world in the late 60's for her tongue-in-cheek satirical acts. One that made quite a stir was her trip to Tralee, Ireland in April 1967 (just two months before her death). Jayne had been booked to appear at the newly opened Brandon Hotel. At the time Ireland was far behind the United States in the sexual revolution of the 60's. To the Parish Priest of Tralee Jayne Mansfield was no more than a dumb blonde sex symbol and he did not want her filthy show to partake in his town. He requested that the Bishop had a letter read out inside all churches in the country warning people not to attend the show. By the time Jayne arrived in town there had been so much uproar towards her show that it was cancelled by the Hotel. A press conference was held announcing the cancellation of the show where Jayne denied ever intending to put on a disrespectful show. She left town the next day. The prudish people of Tralee had gotten their way, Jayne was not performing, however the general public still flocked out in large crowds to catch a glimpse of the notorious bombshell on her arrival as seen here in this video clip
