Jayne Mansfield at Julien's with Fake Photos

I'm sure that I am not the only one who has noticed that Julien's is currently auctioning off a few Jayne Mansfield bits and pieces. Has anyone else noticed that the Jayne Mansfield furniture they are selling comes with fake photographs? This is what it says in the one of the listings "Together with a black and white photograph of Jayne Mansfield in front of the piece." 

The only thing is that these photographs are very obviously photo-shopped. And I will show you what I mean below.

The second listing is for Jayne Mansfield owned dinning room furniture. This listing also comes with fake photographs, this time two of them.

Also in the listing is a table and a photo of Jayne sitting at the table, only the photograph used is one of Jayne getting her make up done during the filming of The Fat Spy.

I'm not saying that the furniture is fake. It probably is authentic. I think that if you are interested in bidding on these items it would be best to get in contact with Julien's and discuss the steps they took to authenticate the items. What I am appalled by is the fact that these photos which come with the items are very much so photo-shopped and not even done well at that. You would think that a place as prestigious as Julien's could tell a badly photo-shopped image.

Currently available for purchase is a hand painted porcelain collectors plate of Jayne Mansfield. The plate is signed and numbered on the back by the artist , Steve Baier, who has made this special and one of a kind plate. I think it is simply divoon.

Giles Spring 2013 Line Inspired by Jayne Mansfield

Fashion designer Giles Deacon has revealed his new Spring 2013 Line to be inspired by the legendary Jayne Mansfield. "Initially I had been thinking about Jayne Mansfield and the place she occupies in pop culture. She is such a graphic figure, comic and tragic. And is defined by that car crash," says Deacon. Shattered glass patterns were used in the all black and white line.

“I remember when Jayne Mansfield was going to Niagara Falls for a photo op and she came in a motorcade down Main Street, past Cathedral high school. Now, you have to understand, there were 800 boys, and the principal of the school made an announcement in the morning that any students who have classes on the Main Street side of the building were not to look outside at 11 a.m.

So now we know the exact minute when she’s going to come down. And some of the priests — because all of us were taught by priests — were very cool about it and they didn’t want to get into any trouble, so they left the classroom for a few minutes. As you can imagine, the entire school was all over this motorcade and just going bananas.

When she got to Niagara Falls, they interviewed her and they asked her about her motorcade trip. She said, ‘Well, it was pretty nice, but it got a little crazy when I went by this particular high school. There seemed to be a thousand teenaged boys yelling and screaming and calling my name and trying to get on the motorcade!’ It was quite a memorable moment.”

Jayne Mansfield Inspired Bathroom

A celebrity inspired home in Milford will be open to the public from October 13 - 21. The Show house is their to raise funds for the Pike County Humane Society. There is a variety of rooms each inspired by a range of celebrities including the pink bathroom inspired by Jayne Mansfield. Tickets cost $15 or two for $25. So if you live in the area you should most definitely check it out. It is for a good cause and sounds promising.

Jayne Mansfield is featured in the exhibit and if you are interested three of the Jayne photographs are for sale in Premiere Archival Pigment Prints on fine art papers, watercolour or canvas. Each print is signed (by the photographers daughter), dated and includes a certificate of authenticity. Cost of prints range from $270 - $800.

Jayne and Matt Tie the Knot

Jayne Mansfield wed her Bus Stop director Matt Cimber on this date (Sept 24) in 1964.

Jayne and Matt were not the greatest couple, in fact many Jayne fans (including myself) don't think much of Cimber. He certainly was no Mickey Hargitay that's for sure.

Jayne and Matt's wedding in Mexico was a private affair and no press were invited. This is why photographs of their wedding are extremely rare to come by today. 

Today 55 Years Ago

18 September 1957 Jayne Mansfield christens her new swimming pool at her Wanda Park Drive home also known as Mansfield's Madness. The day was a success for Jayne's publicity and many of the images taken are well known today.

Hollywood Blondes Film Festival

My friend Richard Koper and author of Affectionately Jayne Mansfield has brought to my attention a film festival taking place throughout the Netherlands between September and November 2012. The film festival titled Hollywood Blondes focuses on the films of many talented women (from the 20's to the 50's) categorized in three different sections; SEXY, COOL and THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. Jayne Mansfield's movie 'Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter' will be featured in the festival. The whole festival sounds very promising for all Dutch fans of the Hollywood Blondes.

Jaynies Pink Palace Book Review: Affectionately, Jayne Mansfield

As a Jayne Mansfield fan, I do my best to get my hands on as many Jayne books as I can. Whether it be a book with Jayne gracing the cover, a small or large chapter featured on Jayne or an entire book devoted to Jayne, I have to have it. Now I've been asked many times before 'how can I read so many books on one person when they're all going to say the same thing?'. Well my answer to that is that I thoroughly enjoy reading different authors perspectives as no two authors will write about her in the same manner. It doesn't bother me one bit that the facts in all the books are the same (as Jayne surely was one very interesting woman), what I care about is the style of the text. And on that note, I must say that Richard Koper has done a wonderful job in bringing a fresh new perspective to the life and talents of Jayne Mansfield. In my opinion, Affectionately Jayne Mansfield is the best book published on Jayne Mansfield since Pink Goddess. The book is extremely well researched, with a large array of books/articles credited in the bibliography. The filmography section of the book is my favourite that I have ever seen in any Jayne book. Rather than a short synphosis on her films the description of each is very detailed and even covers facts on her co-stars and colleagues. Asides from the detailed filmography, also featured in the book is a very well written biography, a chapter on her contemporaries titled Comparison and Competition, numerous black and white photographs, detailed descriptions of her plays and a small section on her more well known tv appearances and finally coming to an end with 26 pages dedicated to something Jayne was proud of so much that she had them hung all over her walls at home, I am of course referring to her magazine covers.

Exterior wise, I love the pink covers. I couldn't think of a more beautiful photo for the front cover. Another thing that gives the book an added little touch is the simple yet pivotal title of 'Affectionately, Jayne Mansfield' as this was a common inscription Jayne would sign for her devoted fans.

I have spoken to other Jayne Mansfield fans/my blog readers and they are also very impressed with this book. I highly recommend 'Affectionately, Jayne Mansfield' for all Jayne Mansfield fans, or to anyone who has never read a Jayne book before, this would be a great book to start with.

Today in 1955 Jayne Mansfield filed a lawsuit of $10,500 for neck and back injuries sustained in a car accident on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in LA on the 10th of April 1954.
