Jayne's Girls

Quiet often I come across magazine or newspaper articles or blogs that display a photo of Jayne Mansfield and a little girl with the Caption, Jayne with daughter Mariska Hargitay. Sometimes it is a photo of Jayne and Mariska, but more often than not, it is actually a photo of Jayne with her eldest daughter Jayne Marie Mansfield. Alot of people really don't bother to do the research. If they did they would know that Mariska was three years old when her mother died.

This photo is more like 1956 and that is
Jayne Marie with her not Mariska.
  I also have noticed that sometimes articles state Mariska to be any baby that they see Jayne holding, like this photo;

Jayne is holding baby Zoltan and that's Mickey
Jr she's helping get dressed into his pajama's
I'm a really huge Jayne Mansfield fan and I can always tell which of her children is which. Each look very different from the other but still like most siblings hold certain similarities. If it's Jayne with a little girl over the age of three than yes, it is more than likely Jayne Marie (unless Jayne is posing with a child friend or fan). If it is Jayne in a photo with a little girl under the age of three and you would like to know whether it is Mariska or Jayne Marie (because you can't always trust news articles) than a simple way to determine is usually Jayne's hair style. All photos of Jayne with a young Jayne Marie she has her 50's style wavy healthy hair. By the times she had Mariska her hair had pretty much died from the constant bleach. In photo's with Mariska she usually has the big 60's up do look or wigs and hair pieces. Trust me, it's alot different to her 50's look and easily distinguishable.

To help clarify, the following photo's are photo's of Jayne with Jayne Marie at a very young age, the age which often throws people off. When a magazine publishes these photo's without doing the proper research people will go away thinking these are images of Mariska Hargitay as a child when they are not.

 These next photo's are of Jayne and Mariska.. Like I told you, compare Jayne's hair.

This following image really baffles me as to how people can think that it is Jayne and Mariska. This is a heart touching soulful photo of Jayne with her daughter Jayne Marie taken by Diane Arbus in 1965. Does this girl look like the age of 1 to you?? Sorry if I am getting into this too much it's just that it bothers me when magazine's and newspapers don't bother researching anything. They just print what they like and then people believe it to be the truth. I guess that is the way of the world these days though.

These next two images are high school year book photos. Jayne Marie on the left and Mariska on the right.

Jayne Marie was the daughter Jayne had with her first husband, Paul Mansfield, when she was only 17 years old. Jayne Marie resembled her famous mother so much, it's uncanny how much she looks like her. Jayne Marie was 16 when her mother died, she went to live with an aunt and uncle from Paul's side of the family however she need not stay there long. When Jayne Marie was 18 she married a banker and had a baby. I'm not too sure what happened from then on with her husband and baby. But I did find one particular article from 1977 that said this;

 By the time she was 25 she was looking at getting into acting just like her mother.  Jayne Marie was barely getting by as a hair dresser and Secretary when she ran into actor Walter Matthau (who stared along side Jayne in the play Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter and the motion picture A guide for the Married Man) on the street and he introduced her to an agent. From then on she was studying acting and giving interviews about her eagerness to start an acting career but very little became of it. She stared in Olly, Olly, Oxen Free (Sometimes known as The Great Balloon Adventure or The Great Balloon Race) alongside Katherine Hepburn. Though I am yet to see this movie, I don't think that Jayne Marie's role in the film was a large one. During this time she also posed nude twice for Playboy magazine (first in July 1976 and again in December that same year) being the first ever daughter of a playmate to also pose for the magazine. Jayne Marie at the time was also in the talks of writing a book on her mother. And then there was also talk of another book she was supposedly writing with Gregg Tyler which was to be titled "Diamonds in the Dust", the pair were engaged at the time (though they never did marry, perhaps it was for publicity). While Gregg Tyler did write about Jayne in his book 'The Joy of Hustling', Jayne Marie never published a book about her mother. But who knows, maybe someday she might. For some reason unknown to this blogger Jayne Marie pulled away from her pursuit to becoming an actress. I think she continued working as a secretary from there on out but am not completely sure. Perhaps it was just the case that she was not cut out for Hollywood and did not have the drive her mother had for a life as a star.

self with her mother

I will end this post with photographs from Jayne Marie's playmate photoshoots. She looks so much like her mother in these photographs. Enjoy.

Jayne Mansfield and the Racquet Club Of Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Racquet club was opened in 1933 by Charlie Farrell and Ralph Bellamy, two popular American actors who were interested in playing tennis and having the luxury of an exclusive place to go to for breaks with their prestigious and very famous friends. The pair sent out exclusive invitations to their Hollywood friends. With membership starting at $50. When they only received four responses they came up with an idea to make the club seem more popular and in demand, they upped the fee to $75. Every 15 days they would send out invitations to Hollywood starts with the offer of becoming a member and every time the membership fee would up. By 1934 the membership fee was $650. Clark Gable, Spencer Tracey, Katherine Hepburn, Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, Ginger Rogers, Kirk Douglas, Audrey Hepburn, Doris Day, Jane Russell and of course the divoon Jayne Mansfield have all been spotted at the Racquet club one time or another.

A family who had the pleasure of living the life and frolicking in the exclusivity that was the Racquet club was the Hinton family. Child stars Daryn Hinton,  Darcy Hinton and their brother Darby Hinton were three youngsters who must have had the time of their lives growing up at the club. According to Daryn she once witnessed Jayne Mansfield have a breeder parade poodles around the pool for her so she could choose her latest pet.

Jayne Mansfield at the Cherry Blossom Festival 1956

 According to Mickey Hargitay in 'Jayne Mansfield's Wild wild world' the cherry blossom festival took place in Brooklyn, the day after Mae West had warned him to stay away from Jayne. Mickey was there to witness Jayne crowned the Cherry blossom Queen. The very next morning photographs of Jayne and Mickey were all over the press. Mae West threatened Mickey with 'Give up the Cherry Blossom queen or else'. We all know the story that comes next. Mickey refused to do so and declared at a press hearing that Mae had called that he was in love with Jayne when he was supposed to say it was all for publicity. Mickey got punched in the face by one of Mae's body guards. The camera's were there to catch it all.

Anyways, here are some rare unpublished photo's of Jayne at the Cherry Blossom Festival. Mickey is no where to be seen in these images.

OOAK Jayne Mansfield Doll

Did anyone see this Jayne Mansfield OOAK doll on ebay recently... Did you also happen to see how much it went for.. Wait for it... US $660. Golly.. The only thing I really like about this doll is the hair piece. The dress and pink gloves reminds me more of Loni Anderson in the Jayne Mansfield story more than Jayne herself.

Jaynie's Pink Palace Tumblr page is gone

Just a quick post to advise you that I have removed my old tumblr page. I guess I just got sick of it. I much prefer using blogger because I love writing about Jayne.

Jaynie's Pink Palace in Miniature

I, like many other Jayne fans love coming across OOAK Jayne Mansfield dolls.. But far cuter than any other doll I've ever seen is this super cute OOAK miniature doll house by Robert Robbin based on some of the very famous rooms inside Jayne's Pink Palace. Enjoy, I certainly did.

Four of the famous room recreated.

Based on Jayne's fluffy pink bathroom.. How adorable is the mini pink heart bath.

Jayne's bedroom. The bedhead and heart shaped fire place just like the real ones hehe.

Please Ask for Permission

Hi fellow Jayne fans,

If you see any rare images on my site that you like I don't mind you saving them on your own accord and keeping them for yourself or for personal use but if you would like to use my images on your own website I would appreciate it if you gave credit where it is due. Also on that note if you come across my page and see an image you may think is your own and I havn't linked it to your page than please let me know. When I reuse images from someone elses personal website I will try my best to give the appropriate credit. Although with alot of the images I use from the bigger companies like ebay or the large archiving companies like Corbis, Life and Getty I won't link the page to it. If I find an image from flickr, photobucket or a website someone else has designed themselves, than I will defiantly link their page to the photo.

I am a big Jayne fan, I conduct Jayne searches regularly and know of many websites of her. I find it frustrating when I upload some of my own rare photos and a day later they are sitting on someone elses website without a link to my page in the caption. That is why I now watermark my more rare images that I have had on me for a while now. I would prefer not to have to do it because I know alot of people don't like watermarked images, I certainly don't like them. And the whole point of me doing this site is so I can share what I have with other Jayne fans. I guess I'm just the small guy and I like to receive my own credit I don't like to take other people's credit and I don't want anyone taking mine in return.

I put the time into creating this keep calm sign all myself. The minute I put it online someone got rid of my web page link off the top and posted it as their own. Now I see this image all over the place like this;

No one knows who made it and no one really cares. But I do. Writers don't want to be plagiarized and neither do I.

For Jayne fans who have wanted to know more about Ronnie Harrison and the Stevens' family.

I recommed that you check out this ladies blog.

She is Ronnie Harrison and Elaine Stevens' daughter. It is a heartwarming story and a pleasure to read.

Jayne's Sad Demise

You don't have to be a Jayne Mansfield fan to know how she passed. A major part of Jayne's fame today among people who don't know to much about her is in the manner of her death. It is a widely known fact that sexbomb Jayne Mansfield died in a horrific car crash. In fact some people still believe it to be more horrific than it actually was, some still believe she was decapitated. Yes, I know, preposterous to us Jayne fans.

It was the evening of June 28th 1967 and Jayne had just completed a show at Gus Stevens Supper Club in Biloxi Mississippi, a venue she had performed in before. Jayne had an engagement to get to the next day in New Orleans, a filming for a TV program at WDSU-TV studios. The only way to make it on time was to drive through the night to their destination. Jayne's boyfriend at the time, Sam Brody, could not drive because he had previously been in a car accident. And Jayne was tired after performing and needed sleep. Ronnie Harrison the boyfriend of Gus' young daughter volunteered to drive Jayne, Sam and three of Jayne's children in Gus' car, a 1966 Buick Electra. At about 2.25am on the 29th of June 1967 the car was travelling down U.S Highway 90 as an insecticide truck was spraying the road causing fog to block their view. Their car slammed into the back of the trailer. Sawing off the top half of the car and instantly killing all three adults in the front seat. Jayne's three children in the back seat Mickey Jr, Zoltan and Mariska survived. Mickey Jr suffered from a broken arm, broken leg, cuts and bruises, Mariska suffered from bruises and a head injury which thankfully did not cause any long lasting damage and Zoltan (who had only months before survived a lion mauling) suffered from cuts and bruising.
