The Jayne Mansfield Story Australian DVD Release

Australia has finally decided to release The Jayne Mansfield story in region 4 format for Australian viewers. The DVD will be available this month. I am very happy to be seeing that Australia have finally started to do something about releasing a few of Jayne's movies. I own all of her movies already but it is still nice to see Jayne's movies in stores here. Also the cover work is different to the international release titles so it is nice to see the different types of cover art. I have seen two different cover options for this release of The Jayne Mansfield Story. The cheapest I have seen it at pre-order price is $10 at jbhifi's online store.

Here are the two different Australian cover's I have seen

Jayne's Daughters Jayne Marie Mansfield and Mariska Hargitay Today

Mariska Hargiay recently posted a photo of herself with her big sister Jayne Marie Mansfield. I know a lot of Jayne fans often wonder what Jayne Marie looks like today so I couldn't resist reposting. Thanks for sharing this great sisterly snap Mariska xo

Watch The Wayward Bus

The Wayward Bus is now available to view on youtube for anyone who has not had the pleasure of seeing it. I have the blu ray edition which I highly recommend getting if you don't already have it. The only downfall is that it was limited edition and is now sold out so it can be pretty pricey when it comes up for sale today. The blu ray is superb quality unlike this version but for people who don't have a multi region blu ray player or can not afford the blu ray version this is better than nothing. Click the link below to watch the film.

Jayne and Her Boys

Simply adore this ultra rare snap of Jayne enjoying the sunshine with her little men Miklos and Zoltan. It does not get cuter than this.

Jayne & Miklos by Lawrence Schiller

Lawrence Schiller photographed Jayne at home in the pink palace and he captured some wonderful photos of Jayne and her family. But this loving photo of Jayne and her new born son Miklos is by far my favourite. The colours of Jayne's outfit and the image on the wall really stands out. Such a beautiful photograph of mother and son.

Jayne Mansfield South American Tour

Here is a super rare flyer from Jayne Mansfield's South American Tour in 1966 and the signed contract for the tour. As you can see by this stage in her career she was receiving a sum much less than the huge figure she was paid at the height of her career in Las Vegas.

New Las Vegas Hillbillys DVD Out Soon

Jayne's movie the Las Vegas Hillbillys has been released on dvd through a few different companies in the past however there is a new one coming out in June with a rather lovely cover. This particular release is brought to you by United Home. There doesn't appear to be anything new or different in the special features and I doubt that the quality of the film would be any better than the previous release dvd's. The release date given is 11 June 2013 however on the numerous site's I have found this particular version there is no pre-order option so that makes me think that there could be a halt with the release and it might be available at a later date. We shall have to wait and see. In the mean time here is the cover of the new Las Vagas Hillybilly's DVD.

Jayne by William Read Woodfield

William Read Woodfield photographed Jayne Mansfield for one of her most well know playboy photo-shoots  The images appeared in the February 1957 edition in the article titled 'The New Jayne Mansfield'. The series of photos were to demonstrate Jayne's ability to convincingly play a scene of sensual emotion. The photographs I am referring to are of course the ones of Jayne lying in the grass. An alluring photograph from the shoot which was not featured in the article is this beautiful colour image of Jayne with her eyes closed in a sweet almost pray like position atop of the rocks. Jayne looks beautiful and so very sweet and innocent in this image. I really do love it.

The Alfred Hitchcock Hour Complete Season One Australian DVD Release

Good news for Australian fans of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour. The complete first season is now available on DVD. The official release date is tomorrow (22 May 2013). Retail price is around AUD $55. Jayne's episode titled The Hangover is featured in the 8 disc collection. I already have Jayne's episode and it is still available for viewing on youtube but I do wonder if the quality of this official release DVD will be better. I think it is worth getting as the whole series is a delight to watch. I will let you know what I think of it once I have my copy.

Here is the synopsis for this fantastic DVD set

Now, for the first time anywhere, the entire deliciously murderous First Season of THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR is available on DVD – all 32 stories presented by the master of suspense himself. Join an incredible who’s who of guest stars including James Mason, Robert Redford, Vera Miles, Peter Falk, Jayne Mansfield, Angie Dickinson, Tony Randall, John Forsythe, Peter Graves, Gene Barry, William Conrad, Bob Crane, Dean Stockwell, Diana Dors, Dabney Coleman, Gig Young and many more as they become the puppets in Hitch’s theatre.

Jayne Mansfield Christmas Cards Information for Collectors

Many of my readers not only adore and admire Jayne by they also collect Jayne Mansfield items just like I do too. One of the nicest things to collect are Jayne's personal Christmas cards. Jayne sent out hundreds of Christmas cards to anyone she corresponded with such as actors and actresses, press men, secretaries, hotel and restaurant owners, the list goes on. These Christmas cards are quite rare but they are out there and there is plenty out there for the devoted fans like us. I myself own three. Two of which came from a restaurant owner in a fantastic autograph and document collection I brought a couple of years ago for a fabulous bargain.

Jayne's Christmas cards can get quite pricey sometimes but there is something that all Jayne fans should know if thinking of forking out a lot of money for one. They are not hand written by Jayne. All of Jayne's Christmas cards are either printed or secretarial signed (one in particular is in Mickey's handwriting). In some cases the original envelope the card came in can be in Jayne's own hand writing but the Christmas cards are not. She sent out way too many to hand write them all. Another thing that is quite displeasing and makes confusing for collectors is that sellers more often than not will sell you the card under the interpretation that the card is in Jayne's own writing. I have seen quite a few lately on eBay with the seller claiming it to be Jayne's writing. It is misleading.

Here are some of Jayne's Christmas Cards

One of Jayne's earlier Christmas Cards
Fold out card
Interior is bold ink
Season's Greetings from
The Hargitays 1962
In Mickey's Handwriting
The back is blank
(I have this one but this is not my copy)

1963 Fold out Christmas Card
Jayne was pregnant with Mariska
Interior is in bold ink
Single sided card 1962
Back is blank
Secretarial Signature
(Another one I have but again not an image of my copy,
this is an image of one that sold on eBay recently for what I thought
to be an outrageous price)

Cimber Family Christmas Card
Jayne had these cards made up with a
handwritten message pre-printed inside
All these cards are exactly the same the tilt of the writing,
the spaces between the letters and words do not change
at all between different cards. These are not handwritten at all.
Different card from above
to show that these are exactly the same inside
Cimber Family Christmas Card
The inside of the above card
Again, this is pre-printed in Jayne's handwriting
(Another one I own, not my copy though)
Jayne Mansfield Christmas Card

The inside of the card above
Pre-printed message in Jayne's hand
The inside of a different copy of the same card
Slant is the same, spaces between letters and words
are exactly the same to prove these are
pre-printed not hand written
To me these are great collectors pieces even if they are not signed by Jayne, they were still her personal Christmas cards and are fantastic to collect. I think that sometimes when the seller is misleading and claims these to be signed by Jayne that is when they can get pretty pricey because the people bidding on them believe they are bidding on a true signed item when they are not. So this is just a post to make all my fellow collectors aware of what you are actually getting when you buy these lovely cards.

Jayne Mansfield's Tropicana Hotel Nightclub Revue 54 Years On

Today in 1959 Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay started their engagement at the Tropicana Hotel Nightclub Revue. Their appearance went through until the 18th of June. This was their second appearance performing at the Tropicana, the first one being Tropicana Holiday in February 1958. The couple brought along Jayne Marie and their little four month old baby Miklos. There are hundreds of photographs of Jayne taken around the grounds of the Tropicana during her stay there.

The show was produced by Lou Walters with music by the Herman Kaye Orchestra and Choreography by Kenny Davis.

Jayne's costumes were much more risque this time around. Jayne even designed the main sheer nylon costume herself.

Here is a synopsis for the show;

In this nightclub act, Jayne Mansfield sings "Let's Fall in Love" and "My One and Only Love". While Mickey Hargitay is singing, he walks among the audience. After Mickey finishes mingling, the two of them do a skit where Mickey, an insurance agent, discusses insuring Jayne's "two puppies". Mickey and Jayne then do an acrobatic dance. In addition to Jayne and Mickey, the show contains acts by comics Elsa & Waldo, tumblers Siz Flying DePauls, Apache dancers Lucien & Ashour, and acrobats Nicki & Piroska.

Variety had this to say of the show;

Jayne Mansfield has built herself into a legendary figure called Jayne Mansfield - and that's her greatest asset; she's Jayne Mansfield. She doesn't claim to be an actress or singer, but she does act and she does sing in a refreshingly different style which fits the legendary figure, the distinctive and exciting screen sex symbol, the beautiful face with the body to match.

The 'two puppies' skit was used again in 1966 for her act French Dressing at the Latin Quarter.

Below are some beautiful images of Jayne Mansfield during her time at the Tropicana for the Tropicana Hotel Nightclub Revue, enjoy.
